Darleen Schiavo is a 1996 University of Windsor graduate with a B.A. in Communication Studies & a major in Journalism. After graduation, she chose to dabble in the radio industry and one of her proudest moments was working for WQBH-AM owner, Martha Jean “The Queen” Steinberg, a Black radio pioneer. While in this position, Darleen received the Spirit of Detroit Award from the retired Police Commander, then-Detroit city Councilman, Gilbert “Gil” Hill. Her career in radio continued at Windsor’s CHUM Radio (now Bell Media) group of 4 stations. Returning to work after raising 2 beautiful children, Darleen chose a freelance career and never looked back. Sold advertising for a locally owned business magazine, then a Social Media and Marketing Manager for various local businesses. She is a champion of small businesses and a fierce advocate for children’s rights.
